Having the honor to illustrate an extensive serie of background decorpieces of Fairfax media's & McDonalds's christmas-events themed ''Escape to Neverland''. I was asked by Belle-Laide Events in Sydney to produce digital paintings of these decorpieces, and deliver them in vector format for printing (5 metres high)! It's been one hell of an adventure! I've been working on this project 12 -16 hours a day, for maybe longer than a month. It's been the biggest challenge I've ever faced in my career as a freelance artist, but the best educational experience so far! It's been so great working with talented and patient people with an unique feeling for creating a story and have a passion for creating a magical setting as well!
The events were a great succes! With a giant 3D illustrated Peter Pan book set the scene. A four-metre-high paper pirate ship sailed at the back of the dance floor, while paper mountain ranges loomed over the Lost Boys; even the Pan crocodile was on the first floor.
Everybody was wearing wristbands saying ''never grow up'', reverting to childhood has never been so appealing. Of the nearly 1300 staff attending, about 98 per cent were in costume. People were dressed as Snow White, Smurfs, Mary Poppins, Super Mario Bros, the Hulk, crayons, pirates, 101 Dalmatians, superheroes and lots of fairies.
